A: Our audition process is a personalized experience. Dancers and families can contact us to schedule a meeting with Artistic Director JJ Moore, where you can inquire about the program, and together with JJ, determine if JJ Dance Arts aligns with your aspirations. Dancers have the option to submit audition videos and/or attend open classes for consideration. Contact us directly for more details.
A: Enrollment in the JJ Dance Arts program starts in January. Limited spots are available. Once you’ve had a meeting with JJ and have both determined JJ Dance Arts is right for you, you will receive an acceptance letter with instructions on how to hold your spot for the upcoming season!
A: You will find that costs are significantly lower than a typical competitive studio. How do we do this? Our budget is dedicated towards faculty and special guests, not costumes, props, and sets. As far as competitive entry fees go, we charge exactly what the competition charges us. There are no hidden fees built into your invoices.
A: The JJ Dance Arts program was created with a curriculum to unfold at a pace for students with existing dance vocabulary and technique.
A: The JJ Dance Arts curriculum includes a competitive season with 3 full program competitions, 1 optional competition for solos, duets and trios, and a competitive showcase. We have students that have competed with Team Canada, at the Youth American Grande Prix and The Dance Awards. We support and celebrate the desire to register in anything outside of our program curriculum.
A:Once JJ has assessed that you're ready in skill and maturity to be presented to an agent, she is happy to support you in navigating that process.
A: Never. As we are a program designed to support resume building opportunities, we will work with you to ensure your success. All of our dancers are equipped to handle adjustments, which is aligned with professional productions where you may have to swing, understudy, or rework a piece for a number of reasons! We are extremely supportive of our dancer’s professional successes!
A: Not quite. Professional auditions require a unique set of skills. For example, redirects, when it's appropriate to as questions, willingness to experiment creatively, the confidence to use your voice, and the list goes on. While some skills attained from workshops are transferable, we work closely with dancers to ensure confidence in a number of professional audition experiences for film, tv, company work, theatre, and commercial dance. We work together to ensure you feel confident, open, and willing, with a focus on how to be in those types of rooms.
A: We train our dancers at a high level for those aiming to work professionally or who are already working professionally. There are no hierarchies in this way: no principal dancers and corp, no leads and ensemble dancers, and no front row vs. back row dancers. Each dancer is valued the same. Each dancer is working towards specific career goals. Depending on what kind of career goals you have in mind, we work with trained dancers who have goals beyond competitive routines, and depending on where your training is at, JJ Dance Arts may or may not be right for you.
