This term is dedicated to refining technique, learning new skills and community performances. The fall curriculum also includes an “Audition Preparation Series” where theatre and film choreographers hold mock auditions to teach our students a variety of preferences, processes and etiquette when it comes to professional auditions.
The performance element of the term instills a deep sense of connection, generosity and team work. During the rehearsal process dancers cultivate not only individual skills but also a collective spirit that resonates through the studio. This allows dancers to feel connected to their artistry, beyond scores, titles or trophies.
The Lighthouse is a charity based in Oakville that offers grief support to children who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. In October the JJ Dance Arts dancers are a part of the entertainment for The Lighthouse’s annual event, “Food Fashion Fun”. For this event, we adjust existing routines and create new pieces to be danced on a runway. In November we present our original 3-act show titled, Light Heavy Light at The Burlington Performing Arts Centre. This is an annually remounted show with all proceeds from our 3 performances going to The Lighthouse for Grieving Children. To date, JJ Dance Arts has raised $51,911 for this very special and necessary charity.
The JJ Dance Arts dancers performed their December “Holiday Cheer” show outdoors for Burlington’s local seniors.
The tour to different performance venues serves as invaluable industry training, teaching dancers the art of adaptability and versatility. The ability to put up a show in varied spaces becomes a valuable skill as our dancers prepare the challenges of live and touring productions. Beyond the technical demands of dance, this term lays the foundation for a well-rounded dancer, ready to navigate the complexities of professional jobs with confidence.
These performances create a unique bonding experience, allowing the community to witness and engage with the artistry and dedication of our performers.
The world needs more of the energy you put out there, and I really believe that what you do with this show in particular could reach and connect to a huge audience. The message is universal and delivered in the most beautiful, sublime and humble way. I don’t think we say enough just how much we appreciate having you in Curtis’s life as a coach and mentor, and not just when it comes to dance."
